Philosophy Forum 31/08/2017 -Keith Tilford: Laruelle, Art and the Scientific Method

Dear All

so Laruelle is still hanging in there but Tilford’s essay looks interesting and it concerns art (Tilford is an artist) which we talked about extensively, science (which we’ve been confused about in relation to Laruelle) and Laruelle (which we’ve been confused about in relation to Laruelle).

I have a feeling Althusser could be on the horizon soon but for now let’s meet in UL102 at 14:15-15:45 and discuss this first.

Philosophy Forum 24/08/2017: Identity and Event

Dear All

so look, I know I was all ‘Laruelle season is nearly over’ and then I reneged on it a bit. I really thought it was about done, and I promise this isn’t turning into the non-philosophy forum.

However there was a request for more event type things and when I had a look for ereignis and Laruelle this paper came up and frankly I couldn’t resist it -a bit more reneging isn’t going to hurt is it?. Maybe (as it is once more by the man himself) it will be so incomprehensibly awful it will put an end to this business but let’s give it a try eh?

Extra fun Laruelle reading

Dear All

if you are feeling intrigued generally by this whole business then I can recommend these short articles. They are, by contrast to ‘the transcendental computer’, extremely easy to read.

Philosophy Forum 17/08/2017-Galloway: The One Divides into Two

Dear All

Look ok so the title doesn’t use the ‘L’ word but he is still around a bit. The reading this week is an exciting looking chapter from Galloway’s ‘Laruelle Against the Digital’. The chapter features a considerable discussion on Deleuze, Badiou and Heidegger and will hopefully go a bit further to clarifying Laruelle’s relation to his ineffable one.

Philosophy Forum 10/08/2017 -Francois Laruelle: The Transcendental Computer

Dear All

the last paper in the Laruelle season is the one I’ve been working towards since the start of it all and is entitled ‘The Transcendental Computer: A Non-Philosophical Utopia’. Elsewhere in one of Brassier’s writings we had an intimation that the transcendental computer may be a name for a kind of pared down hyper-rational remains of a subject (sounds a bit Nick Landy do you not think?). Whether or not this is the case in this paper, we shall have to see (insofar as we will understand any of it).
