Philosophy Forum 27/05/2015 -Friedrich Nietzsche: Twilight of the Idols.

Dear All

And as quickly as Zizek and his dialectical friends appeared, so they vanished (Poof!). There in their stead was everyone’s friend (well maybe not Zizek’s): Friedrich Nietzsche -who was requested by the way and has not just randomly turned up.

So the reading for next week is the first 37 pages of ‘Twilight of the Idols’. This is on pages 195-232 in the PDF. To disambiguate as best as I am able, the last page of the reading has the heading at the bottom of the page ‘Skirmishes of an Untimely Man’.

The meeting will be in UL102 14:15-15:45

With best wishes

Philosophy Forum 20/05/2015-Slavoj Zizek -How to Count Zero for One?

Dear All

Zizek was such an interesting read that I thought we could read a bit more. The next section looks no less interesting with the inviting first heading ‘Derrida as a Reader of Hegel’. This section can (fairly obviously) be found in the same document as last week (For They Know Not What They Do: Enjoyment as a Political Factor)on  ps31-54 (the page numbers as seen in the document (as book) not the pages as the pdf software would perceive them).

The room will be UL102 and the time 14:15-15:45 (all as usual).

With best wishes

Philosophy Forum 13/05/2015 -Slavoj Zizek: On the One: The Birth of a Master Signifier

Dear All

staying with Lacan (through Zizek) and even returning to the notion of the master signifier, this week the forum will look at the first half of the first chapter of Zizek’s book ‘For They Know Not What They Do: Enjoyment as a Political Factor.’ This section is on pages 7-31 in the text (not the pdf page numbers). The meeting is in UL102 14:15-15:45 and the reading is available here.

With Best Wishes
