Philosophy Forum 19/11/2014 -Stanley Cavell: Knowledge and the Basis for Morality

Dear All

this week we will look at chapter IX (the start of part 3) of Cavell’s ‘The Claim of Reason’ entitled ‘Knowledge and the Basis for Morality’ which is on p247-274 in the text itself -not the PDF page numbers.

The meeting will be held in UL102 14:15-15:45 and the reading is available here. Please note, the file is quite large (as it is the whole book) and may not open in the online reader, if however you hit the download button whilst it is struggling to open, it should still download a local copy to your computer.

Best wishes

Graham

Philosophy Forum 12/11/2014 -Barry Stroud: Cavell:Reasonable Claims and the Tradition

Dear All

this week the forum will continue with the Wittgensteinian thread by looking at a work concerning one of his most important successors: Stanley Cavell. Stroud himself is very interested in Wittgenstein which no doubt explains some 0f his interest in Cavell’s work.

The meeting will be in UL102 at 14:15-15:45 and the reading is available here.

Best wishes

Graham
